What Makes Cream's Disraeli Gears So Great?
Updated: Mar 12, 2021
It's Our Favorite of the Band's Albums

If you're a fan of classic rock, then you're likely a fan of Cream, and if not then you probably at the very least know "Sunshine of Your Love". Being one of Rock's first super groups, Cream hit the ground running with 1966's Fresh Cream and were immediately one of the biggest bands in all of rock music.
Eric, Ginger, and Jack
Not only did Cream take the music world by storm, but the band also left behind a lasting legacy. The three members of the band (Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce) are revered by musicians as legends, for both their time in Cream, and the other groups they also participated in. While their solo work and future bands were great, nothing seemed to capture the same magic the trio had when they performed on stage together.

Why is Disraeli Gears So Great?
Fresh Cream and Wheels of Fire, Cream's two other studio albums, are fantastic albums in their own right, but for our dessert island Cream record we're gonna go with Disraeli Gears. Just look at the track listing:
Side One
"Strange Brew"
"Sunshine of Your Love"
"World of Pain"
"Dance the Night Away
"Blue Condition"
Side Two
"Tales of Brave Ulysses"
"SWLABR"
"We're Going Wrong"
"Outside Woman Blues"
"Take it Back"
"Mother's Lament"
"Sunshine of Your Love" is a classic rock staple, and the rest of the album doesn't disappoint either. "Strange Brew,""Dance the Night Away,"and "Tales of Brave Ulysses," are three great rhythm focused rock songs (listen particularly to Bruce's bass playing). Clapton's guitar shines through on "SWLABR," and Baker's drumming on "World of Pain". A highlight of the album, and band, is Bruce's vocals, which are particularly great on "Take it Back," and "We're Going Wrong".
